2011 TOYOTA JAPAN VITZ YARIS CENTER BOX JDM NEW — Possible Retrofit?

I’ve just finished the steps in the installation of the first shown above. Aside being a very cramped (which was not helped by our current spell; I had to sit in the hot tub for a half hour I could fully unbend my it has its problems, as outlined below.

and foremost, this is not a perfect fit for a iQ . As shown above, the plastics with this armrest the armrest/cup holder assembly, as as a second shroud-like piece is fitted below. The lower is made to fit over a console/emergency housing on some Toyota (and not one that I’ve owned). You can just see the cutout for the brake housing in the photograph

Both portions are mounted on a gauge sheet metal which is in turn screwed to a pair of heavy-gauge metal these being mounted the inner seat rail on side of the center location.

All the install uses four machine screws and four machine screws. Nothing and nothing that screws plastic.

The instructions that I with this arm rest in Japanese, but they are accompanied by the pictographic description of the process, so if you ever assembled a Japanese model, or a piece of Ikea you will do just fine. The included are marked with L and R, and (on the one) an indication as to which end forward.

To mount the armrest, you first unbolt the inner rails from the floorpan. I an 8 mm socket, but I get the feeling that the are really not 8 mm bolts. Nonetheless, the worked.

Once the inner rails are from the floor pan, I each seat up and dropped the beneath each rail. hook over the inner the seat) edge of the rails, and bed against the plastic stops at the end of the rails lightly tapping with a hammer to move along. Once they are in you can rebolt the seat rails place, carefully snugging with the socket wrench as you do so.

the brackets are under the rails, the step is to place the mounting over the holes on one of the under brackets, and lightly bolt it in Because there is considerable in this bracket, you need to secure one side of the mounting before you flex the thing it is over the two bolt holes on the bracket, and then again bolt it into place the remaining bolts.

(The screws used by Toyota for part are made of relatively metal. I first attempted to use my screwdriver with these, and up stripping out one of the heads. Play it and drive all screws with an old manual screwdriver.)

Once the mounting bracket is in carefully snug down all of the screws with a manual so that the bracket is held in place. That completes the portion of this install. If you are in the cold like I was today, you need to warm up and unbend knees for a while.

The next is one that I haven’t taken The plastic bridge piece the arm rest box looks a bit strange if as received, since the lower is fitted to the non-existent emergency console that is not present in our What I plan to do is to trim the of the piece so that the scalloped is removed and a smooth curve the arm rest box is the result, covering the edge of the mounting bracket but permitting access to the space the mounting bracket. For the time I’m just going to that piece entirely.

Regardless of what you do, I would recommend that black on automotive door edge be applied to the front and back edges of the mounting bracket. The metal used here is sharp edged, and could cut and arms and snag cloth might rub up against it.

With the in place, it’s now time to the arm rest box. Set atop the it is held in place by the four screws included in the package. one at a time into a screw and drive them home, carefully using a manual driver to do so to avoid stripping out the heads. Finally, drop the bottom of the arm rest box the piece of automotive carpet to cover the holes.

A couple of notes on the finished

• First, this is a typical arm rest, that is to say that it is fit for shorter people, just the arm rests built into the Nonetheless, it at least provides a that you can use, versus the big that was there before.

• the cup holder provided at the back of the arm box is only completely useable the rear seats are in the up position. You can put it when the seats are up, and then compact the corners of the seat so as to fit beneath it, but take care not to up either the seat or the arm rest you put the seats back in the upright

That said, it does add a console, where none before. It looks like OEM and complements the Scion iQ perfectly. the additional cup holder and storage are a welcomed addition as well. a shame that there is not a arm rest/cup holder/ center that is a true, Made for the iQ that would better the space between the set with a sized enclosure, but you get what you can

When I figure out how to load and when I tear it down to install the trimmed plastic I’ll upload some
