Toyota Tacoma X-Runner V6

If the variety Tacoma isn’t enough for you, you can go upmarket to a of TRD versions that, depending which one you choose, add extra off or sport capabilities. Or you may be intrigued by the X-Runner V6, a mucho macho that’s as much of an eye and ear grabber as it is a hauler. It sports no TRD labels, but it sports.

And as a practical hauler it more than just stuff! The X-Runner also butt!

The Tacoma X-Runner V6 a bunch of very un-truck things such as a 6-speed transmission, aero stuff, a tail pipe, a hood (well, it looks like a scoop), sport seats up and 18-inch alloy wheels. a handsome package, though to middle aged eyes it aimed at the twenty or thirty

And that’s fine, though it me feel decidedly old.

The wheel drive X-Runner’s is a 4.0 liter DOHC, 24 valve 6 monster with intelligent valve timing. Toyota it puts out 236 horses @ 5200 rpm and 266 lb. ft of @ 4000 rpm. It seems more than that, because this truck like heck! It still like you’re driving a but this is as close to sports car as I’ve experienced in a truck though, I’ve undoubtedly driving a few worthy competitors.

The is low, with low profile you also wouldn’t expect to see on a and that gutsy V6 emits a growl when spurred, a sound that makes you to keep the gas pedal floored.

I was Driving the X-Runner is a gas! a lot more fun than it has any right to be!

The truck’s suspension is independent wishbone up front, with springs in the rear. The shock are Bilsteins. The beast also a limited slip differential.

are power assisted vented up front and drums in the rear, ABS all around and Electronic Brake Distribution. They stop the straight and true; you may not be able to this beast on its nose, but you can capably and experience good feel.

My tester had 235/50R 18 mud and snow tires installed. equipment (summer) tires are Performance Summer Radials. You get a full size spare.

is variable assist power and pinion, with good feel. The steering wheel tilts and telescopes.

If you own an X-Runner no one be able to accuse you of being because that 6 speed transmission is a fine gearbox shifts very well. its throws aren’t sports car but they’re short enough to running up through the gears entertaining.

The interior is very truck-like, will undoubtedly surprise few The HVAC controls work but have a decidedly old tech and feel and offer no automatic But overall it’s a very compartment for the two people up front. seats are very sporty that are comfy and supportive and hold you in nicely in the twisty It’s a seat the likes of you’d expect in a sporty not a pickup truck.

The news nearly as good for anyone with being a passenger in the compartment. Getting in and out is pretty thanks to a pair of rear-hinged doors (oops, we aren’t to call them that, are openings that remind me of on the Mazda RX-8. But the bench itself reminds me of the cheap at the local stadium, and once butt’s there, the back catches the spine at precisely the place. Clearly, this is a for emergency use only.

On the upside, there’s quite a bit of to haul stuff back as long as what you’re doesn’t have nerve

The audio system is okay. an AM/FM CD changer with 6 and steering wheel-mounted controls as is unfortunately typical of many its weakest parameter is its sound I had to lower the bass and crank the to make it passable. It played loud enough, though.

door locks and windows are on the X-Runner, as is keyless entry. plenty of storage space, vanity mirrors (for the really vain!) and a sliding window that, alas, offer a defogger. You also get intermittent wipers, which is on most other Tacomas.

Trucks are generally about stuff, of course, and the X-Runner’s six double walled bed comes lined and there’s a nifty 400 (125V) power outlet would undoubtedly come in handy at a tailgate party. are also tie downs mounted the bed’s edge.

Safety includes dual stage and three point lap and shoulder

I never thought I’d a week with a pickup and be sorry to give it back. But Tacoma X-Runner is a blast! I can see it well into the lifestyle of a couple who want sporty and the ability to haul stuff often — even if to the stadium.
