How to Test the Fuel Injectors

TEST 2: Testing the Injectors Resistance

Now that identified the ‘dead’ cylinder, the step is to see if that cylinder’s injector has an internal resistance that is drastically different the other 3.

I’ll explain: A injector has a certain amount of resistance built/designed into it. the fuel injector fails. internal resistance changes. So, by the fuel injector’s resistance and it to the others. we can conclude that bad or not.

NOTE: All four fuel on your Toyota, are not gonna’ the exact same resistance This is normal, because the in their resistances will be small. What IS NOT normal is the resistance value of a fuel varies drastically compared to the that you know that one is Here’s an example of this:

Cyl #1 6.45 #8486;

Cyl #2 injector: #8486;

Cyl #3 injector: 1.15 drastic difference indicates the is BAD.

Cyl #4 injector: 7.20

Second, to get the most accurate of the condition of the fuel injectors testing, the engine in your vehicle has to be warmed up. The key word is warm. If the engine is hot (normal temperature), let it cool down for an 45 minutes to an hour.

Alright, here are the steps:

all four injectors from electrical connectors . Although you may to just test one fuel I recommend testing all four of on your Toyota.

Turn on multimeter and select Ohms and with the multimeter test probe the male spade of the first fuel injector gonna’ test.

Write down this value down on a piece of after measuring the internal of this first fuel You’ll be using this value to compare it to the other in a few moments.

Don’t forget to down to what engine this fuel injector to. You can use the image in the photo viewer as an aid in the cylinders.

Test the remaining injectors and as before, write their ohms value your multimeter registered).

Alright, with the resistance of all fuel injectors on paper, interpret your results. from one of the following CASES:

1: All of the multimeter resistance values are identical . This result that the fuel injectors are OK. So if car is experiencing a rough idle or a misfire condition or misfire the fuel injectors are not to blame.

why: when you do find one BAD injector, this one will a totally different Ohms value. And this will beyond any doubt that fuel injector is BAD.

Now, if you’re vehicle is missing, take a look at the two sections of this article:

2: One of the four multimeter resistance is drastically different . this you that that particular injector, on your Toyota, the drastically different resistance is BAD.

I suggest that you that fuel injector one time to make sure of the (resistance) value. If this is still the same as before, the injector is BAD.
