Story: Peter | Posted 25 September 2013 | In Van Reviews

Verdict: Competent, and generously equipped. The 5 year/100,000 warranty will be a big plus for businesses.

We’ve driven the wheelbase version of the Proace, mid-range power and 1212kg capacity

Toyota Proace

What is it?

Anyone who, like me, the heady days when the Hiace first appeared in the UK in will have watched a certain sadness as the cutting design and the pin-sharp handling was matched and surpassed by the rivals.

in 2012, the poor old Hiace was consigned to the great van scrapyard the succumbing, unloved, like worn-out old granny in a care

The news earlier this that Toyota was about to a new van had us all ears, anticipating another of innovation and dashing style as was seen all those years

To be truthful we were slightly to discover that the new Proace was in a rebadged Peugeot Expert, is also badged as the Citroen and Fiat Scudo – the design of dates back to early

Side and rear access to the 6 cubic metre load Ply-lining will set you back an £200

But times are hard and manufacturers nowadays are baulking at out millions of pounds to develop a of their own, so maybe we be too tough on Toyota.

And it does that if you want to buy some and vans – and maybe the odd 4×4 off-roader too – you can now round to the nearest Toyota and buy them all in one hit.

So what exactly does the Proace van have to offer? long and short wheelbase are up for grabs, along with and high roof variants.

the bonnet goes either a turbodiesel powerplant offering or a 2.0-litre version with 126bhp or 163bhp, in line the Expert, Dispatch and Scudo. is also a crew-van version on the wheelbase chassis.

Our test vehicle is the long standard roof model the middle-powered 126bhp engine and a load capacity of six cubic and payload of 1212kg.

Standard is high on the Toyota Proace and Electronic Stability Program which helps prevent skids, air-conditoning, bulkhead, side sliding doors, connectivity, electric windows, a vehicle alarm and a five-year mile warranty. Ex-VAT is £20,279.
