Toyota Prius+

Verdict

The Prius+ does what is says on the tin, by everything the standard Prius plus a little bit more. three rows of seats, of storage space and a panoramic it’s a great way of transporting the family. The handling is far from but who cares when you’re and using so little fuel?

For the six months of 2012, the Prius was in the global sales chart, only Ford’s Focus and Corolla.

It’s been a rise for the Prius since it 15 years ago, and Toyota’s of the hybrid market looks set to with the Prius+. It’s first hybrid seven-seater and the full-size MPV to emit less 100g/km of CO2, making it

Toyota is keen to stress this is a whole new vehicle the ground up, not just a swollen of the standard car.

Measuring longer, 30mm wider and higher, with a wheelbase by 80mm, the Prius+ is substantially but the overall look is familiar. The end gets a much wider, grille with sharp either side to improve while a roof spoiler drag at the rear. It’s the elongated roof that your eye, though, the car a classic MPV silhouette.

Toyota has capitalised on the extra space by cramming in three of seats, each mounted higher than the row in front, for a view of the road ahead. and legroom are generous, even in the row, which can comfortably fit a of adults.

With all the seats there’s 200 litres of boot Fold the back row flat the floor and that increases to 505 and with the second row forward, 1,750 litres to play An extra storage tray the boot floor is handy, the tailgate opening is 95mm than the Prius’, making objects easier to load.

An all-new dash design a more upright centre with a large rotary for controlling the air-conditioning, a trademark gearlever and the electronic parking The centre console is reserved for a storage bin and buttons for the three modes – EV, Eco and Power. The materials robust and functional, but nothing

This is the first Prius – besides the plug-in Prius, launches in the UK this summer – to use batteries, instead of a bulkier hydride pack. The switch just about saving either – the batteries slot under the centre console, the driver and passenger, so there’s no to interior space.

Besides the batteries, the powertrain is identical to the Prius’, and combines a 1.8-litre petrol engine with an motor for a total of 134bhp. In T4 it emits only 96g/km equipped T Spirit models 101g/km) – amazing, considering it 75kg more than the Prius.

Performance is adequate, but the CVT gearbox an awful whine if you push the hard. It’s better to gently, sipping fuel and the supple ride and good You wouldn’t call the cheaper T4, costs £2,840 more the equivalent Prius, an entry-level It has plenty of standard kit, as a head-up display, panoramic and a reversing camera. Pay another for the T Spirit and you get leather, sat-nav and wheels.
