Toyota MR2 Power Steering

Abstract

Everyone has wondered how to the MR2 Power steering pump so it is not a noisy power hog because always on full throttle. some sort of motor or using a small off-the-shelf would not work for me. One, I’m not great of a designer of controllers leave this up to Otmar). a small off-the-shelf controller not work on high voltage Plus, I would have to some type of Micro or Stamp to get all the functions I want.

So I decided to get the original motor from a MR2 at the junk yard and try to it up. Well, it works better I anticipated. One of the modes of the MR2 controller is to the hydraulic pump to a stop there is no movement of the steering or vehicle road speed: power! I have also it to enable itself when the Contactor is engaged. I’m the original steering wheel from the MR2, so it senses how steering I’m applying. It is getting road speed from the cruise control sensor to limit over-steer at road speeds. It uses the in the pump to tell you when the are worn or overheated.

What you need:

The P.S. provided are from a ’94 and ‘95 MR2, so try and get all the from a Toyota close as to these years. There are a different versions of the schematics so use the one that best suits needs.
