Toyota Levin/Trueno GTZ Review

is the second part of a three review of the most common 4ag Levin’s for sale in New Zealand.

The GTZ came out in 1991, it was meant to be an to the GT-Apex and was a much more car.

The 4agze, was an amazing engine for a few reasons, the biggest of course was the super-charger and top mounted intercooler, setup looked very on the GTZ, but as the standard boost was 7psi, it was quite pathetic and as read later, I regard the to be one of the most over-built motors of all considering the potencial and how strong and designed the engine itself

The gearbox had a much higher ratio and the are much larger and stronger, the flywheel and pressure plate are all big and strong too, I have seen an upgrade for these and of the time the gearboxes will the motor, even if the car has a huge of modification and is putting out double the of stock or more.

Again this is somewhat the same, aside from a 33cm steering wheel as standard and a light on the rpm guage to you when the supercharger is on, as the SC12 had a clutch so would only when a certain throttle is reached, so the car was still economical.

The Handling and Brakes ,

The setup was also new, the setup is complicated to describe and is more complicated to look at, but all you need to know is that it really well in my opinion, it the car with much better and often people just the springs to harder aftermarket and leave it at that, toyota used this suspension in some of the later BZG Levin’s its quite rare and all the BZR Levin’s.

How it is to drive ,

From driving the levins, I loved the torque in the but found that with the boost it still lacked power up top, but again is only my opinion and others not share it, the motor was also responsive which I found nice and although ive never one for a long period of time, I think that the economy was good too.

The handling was and it really does set itself from the rest of the Levin’s, you feel the LSD and like I said the brakes are just fantastic, if you to overheat them, you deserve a five.

The ride comfort was much the same as the GT-Apex and in regard everything else was simular, if you just wanted a fun car to around town, then a GT-Apex would be the better as a GTZ would be a bit overkill, as you would really notice the differences if you out on a track or enjoyed hard on the road.

How it is to do up ,

Engine wise, there are so upgrades avaliable its not even from supercharger kits, to kits, to turbo conversions, it all on how much money you have.

people will just the supercharger to the bigger SC14 and change the crank pulley to an 12psi crank pulley, but people leave the standard top intercooler, as its not really worth all the piping just to have a mount.

Some also upgrade there to a water-to-air setup, this is good upgrade, but it all depends on budget.

The other way to go is a turbo with most people aftermarket extractors and fitting turbo’s, no modifactions need to be to the engine, as the standard internals hold up without a problem and the big 370cc injectors can handle too.

When you do a turbo it is also a good idea to fit a mounted intercooler as then the extra piping will be of an issue as the higher boost make up for it.

The brakes as ive said do not need to be as they are more than as they are.

The suspension really needs aftermarket but if you were really picky getting aftermarket coilover would be the way to go, but it is very expensive on

The standard tyre size is so again just like the an upgrade to 17 inch rims ia a good idea and fitting tyres made by a good would be a great upgrade and you the traction you need.
