Toyota IST (JDM) / center console in an xD

Well, I got the armrest that should be as an option from Scion! A in Japan did the legwork, and after minor hassles at the Toyota there, he bought an Ist JDM armrest = US$105) and shipped it over Shipping cost for the

2.5kg alone would have about $55, for 3 day express/EMS (Or about $30 for 2-3 month surface I got some other stuff so express shipping was $80 for a 5kg package.

So the showed up today, and I got it installed evening. To summarize, it looks nice (clearly OEM), very sturdy, and is pretty to install. It took me about a hour to install, but I was taking my and snapping lots of pictures. It is in place by sturdy steel that mount to the seat which seems much durable (and cleaner to than screws into the No drilling or modification is required; inserting and tightening 8 screws. on my very limited experience so it is comfortable while driving, a lack of padding. So if you have any in Japan, I’d highly pursuing this option!

Scroll all the way to the bottom for pictures of the installation.

And now if you’re still I’ll share some detail and lots of photos of the process.

The box contained the armrest/console, in Japanese, a plastic base, a of felt/carpet to line the bottom of the and various mounting hardware:

The has a lid that slides back and into the interior, and a cupholder folds down from the This replaces the cupholder covered up when this is

Even though the directions are all in the pictures/diagrams are easy enough to

The armrest/console screws onto a which straddles the cupholder and in turn screws onto which mount on the seat The pictures show it better I can explain it, so here is the driver’s seat rail before

Same seat rail bracket in place:

(BTW, the don’t interfere with of the seats.)

Same seat with the base of the saddle on top of the bracket, not yet screwed in:

(Note in the above that there is a set of holes, so there are two placement about an inch apart and back. I slid the saddle and used the rearmost placement as pictured below).

And a broader view of the saddle in place, before the armrest was added:

There are 4 screws hold the armrest compartment on to the (After these are screwed in, is a little piece of felt/carpet to line the bottom of the compartment).

And it! Once the compartment is attached to the it’s done. Here’s a of the whole thing, with the slid all the way forward, so you can see the saddle:

the seats are slid back, you see the brackets or saddle at all — surprisingly unobtrusive. The sides of the fit very close to the existing brake/cupholder assembly, so there’s room to store your atlas or whatever, and still to lose stuff that out of your pockets 😉 .

And here’s the final product!

The compartment in the console is small, but functional, and I find it a VERY addition to the limited interior in the xD. The compartment is just big enough to fit a few CD or it definitely has room for an ipod, phone charger, and other and ends:

(Also, you can see that the storage nook (where I some keys) is still

Well, that’s my description of the — hope it was helpful or at moderately interesting!

As for my opinions in I haven’t taken this on any trips yet (ask me after but after a brief test it feels great. The height and is just right to rest my while driving, and I can reach the with my elbow rested on the of the console. It’s obviously not as well as the Zeta armrest, and might become more after a long trip. But at so far, it doesn’t feel or uncomfortable at all.

The openings (main compartment and both slide easily and solid, with little to no or slop. There is no flex at all in the itself — the mounting is extremely solid.

It clearly OEM (and there’s a reason for ) — the plastic matches and it lines up well with the brake and the little storage bin to the parking brake. There is clearance to use the parking brake Overall, a very nice — why in the world isn’t it on this side of the world.

Please let me know if you have any or if you’d like more
