Review: New Toyota Innova

October 2013

Toyota their people moving rather seriously. And we’re not about simply transporting from point A to point B. talking about ferrying in comfort. Toyota Innova has on the forefront in accomplishing this from the day they launched the in India, a few years ago. In it has practically been the undisputed of people movers.

But since its not much has changed on the Innova. there have been a of aesthetic changes routinely, but too significant on the mechanical side. besides the point that every update, Toyota has calling it an ‘all new’ This time, we check if it up to that claim.

With this iteration, has tweaked the grille to make it and more profound. It goes into the bumper and has three slats finished in chrome are more spaced out than The front bumper too goes the knife to get a redesign which the fog lamps with chrome The hood gets sharper to make the styling more

At the rear too there’s been a splash of chrome – in the form of a running horizontally through the of the boot. The tail lamps of a new design as well. But apart that, there’s nothing that has changed from its avatar. Of course, there are new decals on the side, but you get them on the top-end variant.

The top-end variant we’re about here is also – new’. It sits over the VX and is christened as ‘Z’. It gets goodies than any variant has received. What’s new here is the of two-tone leather seats and faux-wood finish on the dashboard and panels. Like the earlier variant, it gets a media with USB and aux inputs and steering-mounted reverse camera, and auto control in the creature comfort The feature list for the rest of the remains more or less to the earlier versions.

Mechanically, Toyota has not bothered with what was already It has the same 2.5-litre diesel good for 101bhp and 200Nm. It out power in a linear manner and the turbo lag well. The only of this motor is that on the noisier side and that creeps in to the cabin when the are piled on.

The motor is mated to the five-speed gearbox. The shifts are smooth but the throws are long. The are on the shorter side despite it a MPV that’ll spend most of its on the highway. That in turn the kpl figures. Our run on the Innova, the on-board showed a mileage of 9.3kpl both highway and city (thorough TopGear road pending).

The Innova is the best seven-seater its handling characteristics. It’s car-like and boasts a sorted quality. Again, it’s the people mover when it to controlling its weight in India. Not body roll and not too much of pitch.

Toyota has not revealed the of the ‘all new’ Innova, but we the top-end Z variant to priced Rs more than the earlier The price for the other variants see a marginal increase.

This is more of an upgrade a full-fledged new model. But despite the Innova remains to be the most people mover of the country – though it’s not the most one.
