Replacing A Dead Prius Battery Doesn’t Have To Thousands Of Dollars

I love the Prius. I bought my Prius new from a dealership in Waterford, MI in the of 2005. It is the only car I have kept until the loan was off, and even then I was in no to sell or replace it. Then the battery died.

Up until point, however, the Prius was a car. It’s a compact car and small from the outside, but the and cargo space are deceptively You wouldn’t think of it as “sporty” per se, but you and me it’s got some zip. We put 100,000 miles on the car over the eight years, and the only we ever really had to do were oil brakes, and tires. The Prius put—an awesome vehicle.

Full disclosure, I had replaced the 2005 Prius…sort of. grown kids who have and younger kids with activities at every corner of the we found that we needed a vehicle. We gave the 2005 to our oldest son, and bought a (actually used) 2011 Prius to replace it. Now I have a better Prius with a moonroof, and a stereo that me play music from my via Bluetooth or USB connection. But, I

My son got some sort of warning a couple months ago. He was for an oil change, so I told him to start and once he got the oil change completed the light was gone. Problem

More like, problem He pays very close to the information the Prius provides on the and he said that he noticed the didn’t seem to hold its overnight. The car drove fine, but morning when he’d it, the battery would be depleted. A weeks later, the dash lit up a Christmas tree with a slew of warning lights.

Sticker Shock

We took the car to an repair shop nearby we trust. The mechanics there are honest, and good at what do. A $120 diagnostic fee and five later, we got the news that identified the dreaded P08A0 code: Replace Hybrid Pack.

The cost to install a new hybrid pack? $4,033! According to Blue Book the car is only about $7500 on the street, and our wanted us to pay more than of that just to keep it

I called the Toyota dealership to see my options were. After discussion, I got the Toyota service to agree to do it for just under out the door. Granted, that is better than $4,033, but way more money than my son has for car repairs, and way more money seems wise to invest in a old car with over 100,000

Of course, with a failing or hybrid battery pack, the was worth significantly less if we to sell or trade it, and any vehicle be able to get for the same money likely be just as old, and more prone to issues just keeping the Prius.
