The Land Cruiser was a complete to hobbyists when it was revealed at the Nuremberg Toy Fair, and the place it in RC history was interesting, to say the least. on a completely new CR-01 chassis, it was first rock crawling a late entry into a that had been dramatically in popularity for several years. By the this truck was unveiled, Tamiya had already ruled the world, not once, but twice! The popular crawlers were Clod Busters with chassis and 4-linked suspension, and the was used by some as well. Tamiya introduced the TLT-1. this small-scale truck a very capable vehicle in form, hobbyists began its axles as the basis for 1/10th rock crawler rigs, and the 2.2 craze of the late 2000’s was

The CR-01 is intended to be a hybrid It has a center-mounted transmission and shaft powering solid axles. The are delightfully soft pliable and with real beadlock 2.2 The truck’s most distinguishing is its peculiar use of coil springs not only compress extend, but twist as the stout 4-linked travels through its range of Oil-filled shocks are mounted at angles, upside-down on the sides of the activated by cantilevers pushrods. The itself is dominated by distinctive steel c-frames up top, with several horizontal and laticed vertical plates on the There’s plenty of room to even the largest ESC receiver on the decks, and a 6-cell battery rounds out the main features, either shotgun or side-by-side The body is Lexan with a few ABS including a grille assembly two decal options to choose depending on whether you want to a set of LED lights (not included). LED light buckets are included as

Another nice feature of the is the locking diff setup from the Hi-Lift. For general you can run the diffs open for a decent radius and low drivetrain stress. For a more fun, you can lock the rear, and for crawling, you can lock The nicest thing is that unlocking is accomplished by removing an large set screw on the diff then either inserting or a hex-head screw pin that through the axle.

When driving, the Land tends to rock its tall from side to side. The radius is actually fairly even with both unlocked. Straightline speed the stock Johnson motor is that of a toy, but this is the truck is geared for crawling not racing. On the rocks, the tires get impressive grip for stockers, and as see in the video (though it was cold and wet the footage was taken), the truck is rather capable, probably so than any vehicle I’d to date with the exception of competition crawlers. Softer and/or swaybars would enhance its prowess, as would a aggressive tire tread

Building Tips

See the CR-01 Land Cruiser thread on the forums for all of my comments the build process plus a of photos as I went along.

you’re extremely patient and strong wrists, have a driver handy before this build, at least #1 and #2 bits and a 1.5mm hex bit. the wheels alone have 20 each .

Also, on step 16, the say to use D6 (medium) spacers for the lower link mounts. Frankly, doesn’t work well. So spacing at the mounting point specify causes binding of the against the side plates at the of articulation, causing your structure itself to have to like it was a spring. To avoid use D7 (thick) spacers instead.

Apply decals #50 before #s 12 13.
