Toyota Camry Navigation Unit Repair

Sunday, June 27th,

This is an article of interest young lady who bought a Toyota Camry with Gen 5 navigation 3 years ago from the Dealership and experienced trouble the navigation unit as soon as the expired.

She was excited about the In-Dash Gen 5  navigation package included an upgraded stereo, radio, and GPS touchscreen navigation. upgrade  by Denso is very and added $2,000 to the price of the at the time. The touchscreen for this works great and the built-in is extremely convenient to always in the car (versus putting up and taking a hand-held GPS each time you get the car).

Unfortunately a few months the 3 year warranty expired on the the touchscreen display went All the functionality appeared to work, but the was so dim that you could only it was on by shining a flashlight at it. So to the dealer it for a repair estimate. The Toyota after assessing the unit that it could not be repaired and be replaced. Cost to replace a unit that cost 3 years ago…..$3,000 dollars. So in 3 years, the price of this went up 50%. The dealer was to charge labor for looking at it but the rep was so shocked himself by the price he waived the fee. Good Relations move by the dealer.

It was to  stomach this recommendation it seemed that everything on the device except for the display. to toss all those fancy because of a failing LCD screen. copious searching on the internet for with similar problems who have suggestions for repair, a recommendation from a a company out of California that these units.

The company is Electronic Services  out of Van CA. Through E-mail contact the company they said they could fix it and would a free official estimate they received the unit a rough estimate was given via After removing the radio of the easiest cars for removing a and $30 of UPS shipping later they had it at shop.

They examined the repaired the 3 parts that had bad, and shipped it back all a week for $585 total return shipping. So a new replacement is $3,000 from Toyota, of existing unit, $585…  A much better deal. only offer a 90 day warranty on repairs, but that is to be expected electronic repairs in general. a wonderful experience is reported. The was reinstalled into the car and it has been working ever since.

You may want to into this company Electronic Services if you experience any of in-dash navigation unit that requires repair.

TACOMA CAB DRIVE IMPRESSIONS

Saturday, 26th, 2010

The Tacoma Cab with TRD Sport Package be on every guy’s wish But lets face it, there are when everyone of us could use a truck to move some of our It reminds me of that classic Carlin routine about having to much stuff. if you have a pickup sitting during those times glad you have it. If you don’t one, you wish you did and dread to borrow one or get a rental.

For the small contractor, outdoorsman, or week-end the mid-size Toyota Tacoma may be the right fit. Tacoma has been known for its high quality, reliability, longevity, and value;…and with it’s popularity as a customizable personalized Tacoma owns a 37 Percent of the mid-size truck market.

The second generation Tacoma, the one pictured, was introduced in 2005 and changed much since for a minor styling update in Engine options are a 2.7-litre, 16-valve four-cylinder with that generates 159 horsepower and 180 of torque, and a 4.0-litre DOHC 24 V6 engine with VVT-i for 236 hp and 266 lb-ft. Variable Valve with intelligence (VVT-i) is technology that pumps power from minimal  Transmission choices are a five-speed or four-speed automatic with the engine, and six-speed manual and auto with the V6.

Tacoma is Single Cab, Access Cab and Cab models, Access with two small, rear doors, and the Double Cab four, full-size, front-hinged There are two bed lengths, too: a that is standard on most and a five-foot bed that is only on Double Cab models. The four-cylinder is standard in the Single Cab and available  in Access Cab models. The V6 is an option and is in Double Cab models. The backbone the Tacoma is forged massive frame rails, eight strong cross members and a boxed front sub-frame.

In lets take a look at a Tacoma 4×4 Double Cab V6 model with the TRD Sport Package Sport Package adds conveniences steering wheel audio sliding rear window, control, keyless entry and intermittent wipers,17″ wheels and and Bilstein shocks. More perhaps, are functional additions include transmission and engine oil upgraded alternator, trailer harness, and Class IV hitch all Tacoma’s towing capacity 5,000 pounds  to 6,500 There is also a 400-watt bed power outlet and a backup that shows up in the rear-view with the transmission in reverse.

the V6 motor is strong, bringing if not fast, acceleration. The five-speed does its job well, though its are rougher than what treated to in a typical family or crossover. We can thank the gearbox’s nature for that. It responds prompt downshifts when the gas is prodded, though the engine enough torque in its low- and that a downshift is rarely for moderate acceleration.

The 4×4 system is a part-time setup with gearing, operated electronically via a on the dash. Unlike many pickups, the Tacoma’s system have an automatic mode allows the truck to remain in drive all the time. There’s no differential, so the truck must be in two-wheel drive mode on surfaces. Access Cab V6 models can be had a locking rear differential and plates for the transfer case and tank as part of the TRD Sport but these items aren’t on the Double Cab model. All Tacomas get an automatic (electronic) limited rear differential and come with the Star Safety that includes Vehicle Control (VSC),Traction Control that helps reduce and prevent traction loss cornering, Anti-lock Brakes Electronic Brake-force Distribution(EBD) and Assist.

You don’t equip a truck all of the gear above if the worst going to see are speed bumps and carts. You expect that going to be put to the test in all kinds of situations where the roads like the surface of perhaps with everything in the path filled with sand, or snow that will to be out muscled or out maneuvered. the Tacoma is firm and the truck is maneuverable a quick turn diameter of 40.7 Tacoma is

Built To Beat The – Bilstein Shocks keep cool for consistent performance pressurre as do the ventilated front brakes.

Powerful And Strong – the V6 engine puts the spark in the center of the combustion chamber. the combustion creates a cleaner, efficient burn and increases performance and efficiency.

Built Backbone – the trucks frame is the of its strength. Tacoma is built on a frame strengthened with 8″ members, beefed-up center rails, and rear inner reinforcements with a rear geared toward handling the (1,150 lb) payload.

Besides and recreational enthusiasts who else buy a Tacoma? How about small or week-end project warriors. can you do with this truck on say a improvement adventure? A Tacoma we’re talking about hauled a pre-fab toolshed from the store and handled a down bed of weighty lawn sod and compost.

Only the weighty proved much of a challenge for the which worked noticeably to get the truck up to speed when down at or a  little over capacity. The transmission’s shifts a little harsher, especially in and the rear end wallowed a little large bumps, but the cabin a comfortable drive during the Tacoma proved to be just truck for all the tasks. Payload-wise, in to carry any more than we you’d most likely to move up to a full-size truck.

the Tacoma’s firm ride when not it proved otherwise to be a very vehicle to be in. The front seats are supportive and comfortable, and very wind or road noise into the cabin at highway

The Tacoma’s cabin puts before fancy. The gauges are and easy to read, and the controls but there’s not much here in the way of items. Headroom is generous, but the openings are short, so getting in a slightly awkward manoeuvre stepping up to the high floor simultaneously ducking down to hitting your head on the frame. The rear seat similar headroom, with adequate legroom.

The comes with a composite bed that eliminates the need for a and the oxidation that can occur the bedliner and a metal bed, tie-down cleats that in tracks running the perimeter of the bed small cubbies in the sides of the bed for small items. The 400-watt, power outlet mounted in the bed is an on most models (in the SR5 Power in the 4×2 Access Cab and with the TRD Sport in V6 models).

The vehicle’s shortcomings are only that you buy the wrong one for your Tacoma proves it’s at hauling both people and within it’s specifications.

If any wisdom to be taken away this article. it’s one should shop carefully buying a pickup. The Tacoma’s drive-train and body configurations are staightforward, but larger trucks are with a dizzying array of of engine, drive-train, cab and box choices that it very easy for a casual buyer to wind up with too or not enough truck for what want to use it for.

TOYOTA HYBRID:SHOULD YOU BUY ONE?

Monday, 21st, 2010

The Toyota Hybrid just like its counterpart, has good performance, a cockpit, and a reasonably roomy seating row without the bulk of or Expedition plus much better economy.

What does really mean in this of the Highlander?   First, the Toyota Hybrid uses a V6 gasoline that drives the front There is one electric that provides hybrid to the front wheels. A second motor provides rear when needed, and makes this all-wheel-drive SUV, sort of, but for traction on wet or snowy road not true off-road travel.

So what can one from a Toyota Highlander Better Fuel economy, of Highlander Hybrid is rated at 27 mpg 25 mpg highway, and can get almost 28 mpg in highway driving. For better you can press the ECON button on the which recalibrates the Highlander for slower acceleration, which you notice around town. If battery power available, the EV (electric vehicle-only) button you creep into or out of the driveway if leaving early, or coming way too late.  For comparison, the V6 non-hybrid is at 18/24. The base Highlander 187-hp four-cylinder engine 20/27, but with 3,845 to move around, you might a lot of the engine unless you’re mostly highway miles.

is a price premium to be paid for the Highlander version as you may have The non-hybrid Highlander versions are and six-cylinder with front-drive or and they start at $27,800 the cheaper of two Hybrid models is $37,500. The upscale Hybrid is $45,000 plus vs. $38,500 for the equipped AWD Highland Limited model. A nicely equipped Highlander runs close to$50,000.

On the the Toyota Highlander Hybrid uncluttered and the maple center trim feels upscale. The 188 inches long, about the as a midsize sedan, yet it’s big inside and offers a third row seat that isn’t bad for children you wouldn’t ask your mother-in-law to sit there. When the second row and third row are flat, you’ve got a big, haul some stuff cargo

Not bad for a vehicle based on the chassis of the Camry and Toyota Avalon .

The system is the Generation 6 Navigation and operate. It’s touchscreen voice input assistance. navigation systems always it easy to put up a moving map if that’s all you without lots of button or layered menus. The navigation includes upgraded audio, and

Here’s the Question…Should You Buy Hybrid? or If you’re in the market for a midsize SUV or with people-and-stuff hauling the Toyota Highlander is an excellent choice in a full of them, including the GM Buick Enclave, Chevrolet and GMC Acadia; Hyundai Veracruz; CX-9 and Mazda CX-7; and the Ford Flex. many well owners find the Highlander appealing. is very solid.

The bigger is whether to go with the hybrid of the Highlander.  If it’s a dollars and decision, it could take a bit over 20 to make back the hybrid If you average 26 mpg combined in the hybrid and 21 mpg in the V6 you’ll save $330 a on gasoline at $3 a gallon. That’s right on top of year payback. Only if reached $5 a gallon and if you increased the mpg over the gasoline Highlander 26 mpg vs. 21 mpg to 28 mpg vs. 21 mpg would you fall under 10 for payback. In other words, it be better to look at the Toyota Hybrid as something you’re for the environment and for the future rather for your pocketbook and R.O.I..

If is an issue, the 2008-2010 Toyota are essentially similar, and good can be had on used Toyota Highlanders upgrade warranties. The 2001-2007 are the first generation and are good vehicles to pick up as well.

The Borrom Line… The Toyota Hybrid Provides Good Road Manners, And Carrying You’ll Need Two Decades To Back The Hybrid Premium. Be Worth It To Some Though…
