Touring Sports may sound another fancy name for we all know as an estate car, but in the of the Toyota Auris it’s not far off the

Having completed a nifty job in its compact hatchback line-up a more family-friendly appeal, the brand has really pushed the out with the Auris Touring

It is the first time an estate has been included in the Auris as well as the first model in its to offer the option of a full powertrain.

While there are those who appreciate the Touring Sports because of its low-slung style, the line for many remains the to shift stuff with to spare.

British-built at Toyota’s Burnaston near Derby, the Touring is available with a choice of and 1.6-litre petrol engines and a diesel plus the full

The 1.6 unit in the tested, mid-range, model offers decent cruises comfortably at high and has an official fuel consumption of 47.1mpg with the CVT automatic though my own return was below at 37.1mpg.

I didn’t particularly the CVT automatic with its spindly lever and would prefer the manual transmission, which is anyway.

Those opting for the hybrid, starts at £21,095 in Icon get a 1.8-litre petrol engine with an electric motor, a maximum power output of enabling 0-62mph in 10.9 and a top speed of 112mph. CO2 emissions are a 86g/km.
