Toyota Celica GT-S (2001) | Car Talk

Toyota Celica GT-S(2001) The Celica is about as old and familiar a name as there is in theautomotive world. It’s been around for years. The current version, redesigned in 2000, is the seventh update since its inception back in 1971.Through all those editions, the Celica has always been one thing: a small, nicely made, sporty car that, in a pinch, can hold four people. Iguess the older we get, the more we would emphasize the word small. With more and more cars adopting a tall profile, you really noticenow when you get into a car that sits you close to the ground.Folding yourself into the Celica is not on your chiropractor’srecommended list. The car is quick and nimble, almost touchy. The ...

62k-Mile 1982 Toyota Celica Supra

Oh my, I bought one new when I was in college (working two part time jobs). I actually ordered it from Conyers Toyota (Conyers GA) before they even hit the lots. If fact, I ordered the silver blue color – simply because it looked so cool in the brochure. As it would turn out, I was disappointed when it rolled off the truck and actually managed to swap the deal to a black on black (just like this one) that the store owner had ordered for himself. At the time this seemed to be quite the accomplishment since according to the dealer, Toyota had not made a black car because ‘black’ was considered the Emperor’s color. So wrangling the first black Supra in GA away from the dealer was quite ...

1985 Toyota Celica Supra | Hemmings Motor News

With Lotus-tuned suspension, the 2000GT’s distant cousin under the hood, and Toyota build quality all around, the MK II Supra is destined to be a classic Feature Article from Hemmings Sports Exotic Car Think back nearly 30 years ago, to a time when the notion of a premium-priced Toyota seemed slightly out of sorts with their common-man image. In America, Toyota built its reputation on the backs of Corollas, Coronas and Celicas—basic, honest, efficient, reliable transportation, much of it in the $2,000 range. The Crown, the car that brought Toyota to the dance, so to speak, got squeezed out of the U.S. market in 1971, when the notion of a $3,000 Toyota didn’t seem like such ...

For Starters, ’89 Toyota Celica Has Urgent Need For New One Click Clack — TOM RAY MAGLIOZZI’S CAR TALK February 15, 1996 | By Tom and Ray Magliozzi, King Features Syndicate Question: I have a 1989 Toyota Celica Sport Coupe. Two months ago I drove about 10 miles to a shopping mall. When I returned to my car, it wouldn’t start. The ignition was …. I got a jump and whipped over to Goodyear, where the mechanic said the problem was with the year-old battery. I had a new one put in. Tom: Sounds as if Goodyear was having a special on batteries that week, Ginny. Ray: I think it’s your starter. It’s not unusual for starters to fail intermittently and be ...

Toyota at the Motorshow — Autoworld.com.my

Search Articles: UMW Toyota Motor’s stand at the motorshow has the theme of ‘Young, Energetic, Fun Contemporary’ and the vibrant atmosphere certainly reflects it well. At periodic intervals, there are dancers on stage and at one end is a climbing wall where the public can have a go and make like the Eco-Challenge team which was sponsored by the company. Four imported models are being displayed, one of which is a concept model — the Celica Cruising Deck based on the latest Toyota Celica. To create the Celica Cruising deck, the designers cut away the rear liftback section and put in a flat deck. This area is separated from the front seats by a movable partition which can be configured ...

How the Ford Mustang Helped Create the Camaro and Celica

How the Ford Mustang Helped Create the Camaro and Celica A few pony cars may have preceded the launch of the Ford Mustang . but as the Mustang’s popularity rose to new heights and set new sales records for Ford, it was only a matter of time before rival automakers quickly prepared their own competitors. It was surprising, however, that one came from the opposite corner of the world. 1967 Chevrolet Camaro General Motors began thinking about a sporty coupe in 1958, but it took until mid-1964, well after the arrival of the Ford Mustang, before the Henry Haga’s Chevrolet design studio was allowed to get serious with project XP-836 — the car that would become the Chevrolet Camaro. “We ...

What is the speaker size in a Toyota Celica 1998 1.8L?

What is the speaker size in a Toyota Celica 1998 1.8L? Best Answer Aside from the turbocharged GT-4 models that were around in the early #039;90s, Celicas have never really been noted for their hard edged sporting appeal. Now the new Celica has arrived to change that image. Under its dramatic sharp-edged cab-forward styling, the new Celica is smaller and lighter than its predecessors, and it has an all-new Yamaha-built high-tech 1.8 litre engine that pumps out 40 per cent more power, despite being smaller in capacity (the superseded Celica engine was 2.2 litres). Add to that combination a new six speed manual gearbox, a new and improved suspension system, and better brakes, and the result ...

New Celica Engine Keeps Detroit Playing Catch-up — Chicago Tribune

New Celica Engine Keeps Detroit Playing Catch-up Toyota has rubbed the domestic automaker`s noses in it again. Pontiac`s two-seater Fiero was considered without peer—until the two-seater Toyota Mr-2 appeared last year. If the domestic automakers are going to keep U.S. motorists from buying more Japanese cars after they see and drive a Celica, they are going to have to set up naval blockades from Seattle to San Diego to stop the freighters arriving from Tokyo. We recall when Celica first appeared in 1970, a paunchy little car that looked to be no more than a Corolla with plastic rear window louvers for the pretense of being sporty. No louvers and no pretending in `86. U.S. automakers ...

1985 Toyota Celica Supra P-Type — Ultimatecarpage.com forums

1985 Toyota Celica Supra P-Type So, I’ve finally gotten my first real car! A few weeks ago my dad and uncle went out to the high desert to look at and buy this car. It is virtually rust-free and runs pretty nicely. There are a few shakes and rattles, but it cruises fairly quietly at 75mph with the undersquare 2.8l straight six purring away under the hood. Being the intelligent man that I am, I went home over the weekend with the optimistic notion that I would be able to cleanly transfer the title, make sure it mostly worked, and drive cross-country back to school. Unfortunately, the California DMV intervened and made me hop through a number of hoops because the car had previously been ...
