Review: 2014 Lexus LS 460 – Private Jet Companion

2014 LS 460 sedan makes long-distance cruising feel as if you’re in a jet. It’s plenty and luxurious as it swallows open especially with its available air

Many considered you somewhat of a if you bought a Mercedes-Benz (then the prestigious mass-produced luxury because the Lexus LS was priced and was far more comfortable for traditional car buyers than a Mercedes. Cadillac owners opted for the LS.

The looking LS has kept up with the For instance, it was the first car to parallel itself. It remains one of the world’s advanced luxury sedans, far more competition than it had.

I found while the 2014 Lexus LS 460 that it has fast and luxurious, with  that have made it and more fun to drive. Steering is weighted and handling is sharper. For standard frequency dependent absorbers help deliver road-hugging handling, while smoothing out rough surfaces.

The ride, even the optional air suspension, is excellent, and is strong, with a linear-action for consistently smooth stops.

Get the air and a driver can work a five-mode control that allows to Eco, Comfort, Normal, S and Sport S+. The Normal mode is for most driving. (The suspension lets a driver the car’s performance by selecting settings: Normal, Eco or Sport The air suspension has a central, permanently Torsen Limited Slip Differential to enhance grip, and cornering stability.

Providing the most driving at least for car buffs, is an F Sport with a unique front lowered body, special with sport seats, shifters, 19-inch forged sport-tuned air suspension and high-performance brakes.

While nimble, the LS 460 is too to be a sports sedan, which it supposed to be, anyway. It weighs 4,233 pounds to 4,717 Its standard wheelbase is 116.9-inches, but also a 121.7-inch long “L” version with limo-style room. The L is 205 inches long, 200 inches for the standard-length LS.

The LS has standard but I tested the $75,085 AWD version, came to $89,765 when with options. It had a silky 360-horsepower V-8, while the rear-drive LS has a 386-horsepower V-8. mind the missing horses of the AWD because my test car’s was strong off the line, and  mph passing maneuvers were a  It was still strongly accelerating at 80

The 0-60 mph time with the V-8 is 5.4 seconds, while it’s 5.9 with AWD—impressive for such a equipment-loaded luxury sedan.

emphasizes that the LS has a standard V-8 when “several competitors reverted to standard six-cylinder in their flagship sedans.” The LS gas/electric 438-horsepower LS 600h L has a V-8 and also is quite fast and

The rub here is that the 4.6-liter V-8 for premium fuel and has mediocre fuel economy. The rear-drive delivers 16 miles per gallon in the and 24 on highways, while the AWD model I provides 16 and 23. The hybrid does better, delivering 19 city and 25 but is breathtakingly expensive, at well $100,000.

The LS 460 has a responsive, smooth eight-speed transmission with an easily manual-shift feature, while the has a smooth CVT automatic.

All doors wide to reveal an uptown, interior, partly because uses new body construction to minimize noise and lots of material (even under the Wind noise is held to nothing at high speeds, because of a remarkably low 0.26 coefficient.

Backlit gauges can be read in bright sunlight, and seats provide fine support. Although I didn’t with it much, I had no trouble the 12.3-inch split-screen high-resolution display that’s large to show a map display on one side and vehicle functions on the other.

The LS 460 has heating and cooling areas and heating and cooling times.

The Lexus Premium Audio has, among other 10 speakers. If that’s not enough for get the optional Mark Levinson system—although it will set you back

The front console contains a storage bin, but takes up of room. Still, there’s of room up front and rear-seat is impressive, except for a hard area in my test car. My car’s backseat armrest was with climate control and controls, further enhancing “private jet” feel.

rear seats with control and lumber massage and a headrest are in the optional Ultra Package. The available Executive-Class Package contains four-zone control, rear air conditioning and a seat DVD entertainment system Blu-ray player.

My test LS had front and outboard rear with an optional “climate feature. I especially appreciated the heated wood-and-leather steering and heated seats during Chicago winter days.

The power open/close trunk lid is if you’ve got your arm’s of groceries, and the large trunk has a wide opening. It opens via hinges, while the hood via twin hydraulic struts.

The LS is a car that is respectfully recognized, when parked near a jet.
