Is the Regular Cab Pickup Doomed? — PickupTrucks.com News

Is the Regular Cab Pickup Doomed? Posted by Mark Williams | April 17, 2013 By Tim Esterdahl For the past several years, truck manufacturers have been adding more double and crew cab pickups to their build orders. They say customer demand is behind this increase, but could a combination of factors — the most important of which is pending federal corporate average fuel economy regulations — ultimately cause the regular cab pickup to disappear? It could, and here’s how. First, understand that the newest set of fuel economy regulations — set to have a major effect in 2017 — penalize truck manufacturers for selling short wheelbase versions of full-size trucks. The reason? The newest ...

2014 Toyota Tundra Crew Max — Off the Line — Road & Track

By Road Track Staff January 3, 2014 / Photos by Chris Doane Automotive Josh Condon, Senior Editor Despite all their modern conveniences#151;and, man, there are a lot of them packed into the average pickup#151;trucks are still ostensibly built as tools, which makes a quick Off the Line review a bit incomplete, unless your daily commute includes pulling a stump or hauling a load of lumber. The Tundra feels like a tool. It’s massive, and the steering wheel is large and slightly canted, so it feels like that of a big rig’s; the Hemi V8 engine growl is like James Earl Jones rumbling, POWERRRRRRRRRRRRRRR, as you barrel down the highway at 90 mph. The extended-cab interior is slightly ...

Toyota Tundra

2007 Toyota Tundra CrewMax Given the hype surrounding the introduction of Toyota’s all-new Tundra, you’d think Toyota’s product team had discovered at least a cure for the common cold. A full-size truck from Toyota is big news and, after Toyota’s two previous attempts at the full-size market (the T-100, introduced in 1993, and the first-generation Tundra, introduced in 2000), it does heighten expectations. The newest Tundra is not, however, the reinvention of the pickup. Rather, with its new Tundra, Toyota hopes to hit the sweet spot in the marketplace and, while not reinventing the pickup, its launch significantly raises the stakes in the full-size segment. If you’re ...

Who Designed The 2014 Toyota Tundra? — Four Wheeler Magazine

Matt Sperling, and he was inspired by Marty McFly “I think when a lot of people picture a designer, they picture a guy with sort of like these really delicate frames and a scarf and a little cap that’s pulled back showing part of the front of their hair and skinny jeans,” joked Matt Sperling, the senior exterior designer of the 2014 Toyota Tundra. “I think most creative people aren’t really like that. A lot of creative designers are maybe a little antisocial, a little introverted, dressed kind of normal, trying to fit in, and they work their butts off.” Four Wheeler had a chance to spend time with Matt at Toyota’s Calty Design Research in California, where he’s worked for 11 ...

Ride Report/Review: 2013 Toyota Tundra Double Cab — FlyerTalk Forums

Ride Report/Review: 2013 Toyota Tundra Double Cab This weekend I had the opportunity to take out a brand new (300 mile) 2013 Toyota Tundra finished in handsome Magnetic Gray Metallic on Graphite from my local HLE. I frequently pick up full size pickups from this office, I’ve never had a chance to drive the Tundra, and was very impressed. Hertz classifies the Tundra as an S. Road Test: 2012 Toyota Tundra Double Cab SR5 4X4 — Canada Cars | Examiner.com

More Photos I have always liked the look of the Toyota Tundra as its huge grille and swollen body make it look like a giant, ready to conquer whatever may get in its path. However, I am not as smitten with the side profile of the Tundra in Double Cab form. The odd 3/4 rear side window detracts from the trucks fluid lines and seems very awkward and out of place. It does however make the truck look less heavy than the CrewMax model, but judging by which model I see most often on the road, the typical truck buyer seems to prefer the larger cabin afforded by the CrewMax. Once I clambered up into the driver’s seat I was surprised by how simple the layout was. A very compact instrument cluster ...

2004 Toyota Tundra Double Cab Towing Test

2004 Toyota Tundra Double Cab Double Tough Toyota’s 2004 Tundra Double Cab hauls every bit of its rated tow capacity—and even a bit more. In much the same way rental cars can do things ordinary cars can’t, press fleet vehicles are often capable of extraordinary feats. For instance, everyone knows rental cars can travel in reverse faster than regular passenger cars. They can take speed bumps faster than the car in your garage. They don’t seem to mind being put into park while the car is still moving and their hand-operated emergency brakes are often a good way to negotiate U-turns more quickly. Naturally, we didn’t perform any of those hare-brained stunts with Toyota’s new Tundra ...

Toyota Tundra Reviews — Toyota Tundra Price, Photos, and Specs — CARandDRIVER

Overview: The Tundra is Toyota’s Texas-built answer to the full-size pickups of the American Big Three. Under the hood, a 4.0-liter V-6 is standard; a 4.6-liter or 5.7-liter V-8 is optional. Available in a number of trim levels, cab, and bed sizes, and two- or four-wheel drive, the Tundra merits a look from buyers who want a well-built truck but aren’t concerned as much about the badge on the tailgate. First Drive 2014 Toyota Tundra 2014  (2014 Second Generation, 2007Present) Toyota refreshed the Tundra for 2014, making it less rounded and more bold and masculine. Aside from mild tweaks, including aerodynamic sideview mirrors, a taller nose, and mild fender reshaping, ...
