Hama Coniglio, The Forgotten Honda S800 Track Car | Honda Roots

Hama Coniglio, The Forgotten Honda S800 Track Car Beautifully designed by famous industrial Japanese designer, Mr. Motoki Hama with his company “Hama Studio”,  the Hama Coniglio or RQE Coniglio was a frequent site in your rear view mirror on the track. Referenced to as the “Hare” or Rabbit upon translation, the Honda based kit-car was indeed a fast looking and well planned out breed that ultimately competed in the ’69 Jap Grand-Prix. Designed around the Honda S800 chassis, the Coniglio (or Konirio via other sources) could have been yours for a price of roughly ¥350.000 or the equivalent of $3,515 US, with the friendly donation of a Honda S800 in 1967 amongst other options. It ...

Asia Times Online :: Japan News — That’s my car

That’s my car By Todd Crowell HUA HIN, Thailand — The year was 1957. Elvis Presley’s Heartbreak Hotel was at the top of the charts. Ayn Rand had just published her novel Fountainhead . And the Toyota Motor Co had just sold its first car in the United States. Fifty years ago, who would have predicted that some of the models might become collectors’ items or items of nostalgia? But tell that to the hundreds of Toyota aficionados who turned out this weekend at the 12th annual Toyotafest, held each year at this time in the shadow of the Queen Mary in Long Beach, California. Every model that Toyota has produced since the early 1960s was on hand — Toyota Crowns, Land ...

AutoSpeed — Pre-Owned Performance — Honda S800

Pre-Owned Performance — Honda S800 A true Japanese collectable performance car, the amazing S800 sports was one of Honda’s first attempts at a four-wheeled vehicle. Words by Michael Knowling, Pix by Julian Edgar Honda — now a global manufacturer of motorcycles, cars and outboard marine engines — first established itself building consumer motorcycles in the boom time after the Second World War. But it took until 1962 for the fast-growing Japanese company to release its first ever car at the Tokyo motor show — the S500 Sports. Due to Honda’s roots, this car shared many of its design concepts with its motorcycle ancestors — hence the tiny size of the ...

Hondamobilia Review

© francis gan (2003, 2004) There must be dozens of variations of this 1/59 scale model of the Honda S800M roadster. The most major variation is whether the convertible top is up or down. In the models with the top down, the windshield header has the accessory wind blocker cast into the windshield header — painted black in most of the more recent top down models. In the top up versions, the convertible top is of the 3 part window type. In the most detailed variations, the headlight trim rings are painted silver, the side and rear marker lights are painted orange and HONDA in stenciled on the trunk lid. Some models have some of these features — in combination or standalone. Most ...

Wellesley Toyota Sports 800: Toyota’s First Production Sports Car

Wellesley Toyota Sports 800: Toyota’s First Production Sports Car with special thanks to William (Doc) Fox Gordon Tobias A few weeks ago, we got our hands on one of the coolest cars to ever grace the Wellesley Toyota showroom: the Toyota Sports 800, affectionately known in Japan as Yota-Hachi. Debuting at the 1962 Tokyo Auto Show, this is Toyota’s first production sports car, and lasted from 1965 to 1969. Although it never made it to the United States, approximately 3,131 units were built, with less than 10% surviving today. A lot of the Sports 800’s you’ll see for sale online are old, beat up, and have been sitting in a barn for years collecting dust and rust. ...

Recommended Reviews Brought my Tacoma in for a check engine light. Really long story, bottom line, they replaced the catalytic converter under warranty. Had it back in the same day as promised. I am a small business owner myself. I strive on customer service. I was treated the same way I treat my customers. Kyle, your the man! You deserve a raise! Very knowledgable.  And they wash and vacuum your car after they fix it? Two thumbs up! I do my own lite maintenance, but anything over my head, I don’t feel comfortable repairing? I will be back. 3 check-ins here In 2010, I got my license as a 22 year old. My friends and family went out of their way to tell me just how terrible of a decision ...

The following story ran in the January / February 2005 issue of CROSSROADS, the newsletter of the Toyota Owner’s and Restorer’s Club. It has been re-edited in it’s current form. Just before I went online with Matt’s original story, Matt sent me a brief update to add as an addendum TOYOTA’S LITTLEST SPORTS CAR By Matt Spielberg My affair with the Toyota Sports 800 started years ago as a student at UC Berkeley. I had just met my future wife, and I dragged her to look at the tiniest little car sitting in a faculty parking lot. There it was – a tiny rounded sports car with a removable targa top. Flash forward a good thirty years, and thanks to eBay I became the ...

1966 — 1970 Honda S800 Roadster — Images, Specifications and Information

By the early sixties the name Honda had already become world famous for its achievements in the production of motorcycles. Soichiro Honda was a self made man, who started his own technical research institute in 1946 and became a motorcycle producer in 1948. His first attempts at the four wheel market were presented at the 1962 Tokyo Motor Show and consisted of the T360 and the S360. The T-car was a small pick-up, while the S360 was a cute two-seater spider. Both cars were fitted with the smallest four cylinder engine used in a car. In spite of its small size 360cc, the engine produced 30 bhp; comparable to the output Volkswagen Beetle, which had an engine three times the size. While the ...
