Youths taking to auto repair classes Online: Mar 14, 2014 Print: Mar 15, 2014 Last Modified: Mar 14, 2014 Toyota Motor Corp. is conducting a class in Aichi Prefecture so young people can discover the fun of building cars by learning how to repair popular old cars such as the Publica and Sports 800. Engineers from the Toyota group volunteer as teachers so they can pass their skills on to younger generations. They are our last hope.” Yodahachi January 28, 2010 November 20, 2009 My cars are all torn apart and I have engine parts everywhere in the garage. I have been answering cell phone calls and emails from all over the world asking for help locating cars and parts. So far I have been happy in finding good homes for 3 cars this year. Due to the downturn in the world economy I will probably not visit Japan this coming January. I have plenty to keep me busy on these long winter nights. I am working on setting ...

An Intriguing Sports Car Deal Between Fiat And Mazda — Forbes

An Intriguing Sports Car Deal Between Fiat And Mazda Say, “Alfa Romeo” and iconic visions fly through your head, of men in sunglasses behind the wheel on the Autostrada, and women in headscarves gliding their convertibles through the streets of Rome . Say, “Mazda Miata” and an entire generation will smile, thinking of the little roadster that made rag tops fun again when it went on sale in 1989. Now, those two images are going to combine in an intriguing deal that is also meant to help both companies meet their strategic needs. Fiat of Italy, which owns Alfa, and Mazda of Japan announced Wednesday that they’ll team up to do a two-seater, based on the platform of the Miata, officially ...

Scale Model Fan: Toyota Publica

Toyota Publica As the Americans had had the Ford Model T, and the Germans had the Volkswagen Beetle, the Japanese, not so long after emerging from a disastrous conflict, decided to create the car that would put their country on wheels. In 1955, the Japanese government published the requirements for such a vehicle, which had to be light and economical, yet demonstrate decent performance and good reliability, and obviously remain affordable. Quite a challenge! In spite of the difficulties, Toyota’s engineers felt up to the task. Initially, they took their inspiration from another successful popular car of the era, the Citroën 2CV. They built a prototype fitted with a transmission to the ...

1965-1969 Toyota Sports 800: One Small Step For Toyota… | Autopolis

1965-1969 Toyota Sports 800: One Small Step For Toyota… 1969 Toyota Sports 800 Today car enthusiasts are going crazy about Toyota’s GT 86 (Scion FR-S in America) as if it were Toyota’s first sports car. It’s light weight and excellent suspension setup have made it an instant classic. Well long before it, the Celica, Supra and Corolla GTS, there was the Sports 800. The Sports 800 has a long list of firsts for Toyota. Its easy to think that the Subaru sourced flat four was the first use of a boxer type engine in a Toyota. Although the use of a flat four is heavily associated with Subaru and Porsche, its use by Toyota was not without a precedent. The Toyota Sports 800′s 0.8L ...

A Little Publica Pickup Tale

The story behind our little Toyota Publica Pickup Story photos by Curt Suzanne Flora; additional photos by Toyotageek We were at an auction a few years back and decided to buy a whole storage unit that was up for auction. We normally don’t buy whole units but this day we decided to. As we were unloading all the boxes we saw the front end of a little car. As we unloaded more boxes, we saw it was not a little car but a little truck. One we have never seen before. Our eyes opened up like little kids in a candy store. The truck was loaded with boxes and blankets and we needed to unload it to push it on to the trailer. As we started unloading it we saw some little handlebars – hmmmm ...

Mazda in Malaysia | Motor Trader Car News

Mazda in Malaysia Posted on March 20, 2013 at 10:54 am Mazda made its appearance in Malaysia when Asia Motor, a local company which had been set up the Ph’ng family, obtained the franchise in October 1964. Initially, the cars were imported fully assembled (CBU) from Japan but when the Malaysian government announced its local-assembly incentives (which would reduce the tax levied and lower prices), Asia Motor made plans to assemble some models locally. Besides taking the initiative to build an assembly plant – Asia Automobile Industries (AAI) – at what was then the outskirts of Petaling Jaya (near Sg. Way). Selangor, Asia Motor invited Toyo Kogyo, the maker of Mazda vehicles, to take ...

Toyota Publica Sports | Motor Trader Car News

Toyota Publica Sports Posted on March 19, 2013 at 10:17 am 50 years ago, Toyota displayed a concept model at the 1962 Toyota Motorshow which had a unique roof design that slid backwards to open, just like the bubble canopies of aircraft in World War II. The prototype was known as the Publica Sports and was an idea developed by Tatsuo Hasegawa, who would later become the chief engineer for the first generation of the Corolla. Toyota Publica Mr. Hasegawa had previously been an engineer at the Tachikawa Aircraft Company and had much experience in aerodynamics and lightweight design, which he used to develop the Publica Sports concept. The Publica was already in production as a small sedan ...
