2013 Toyota Avalon — Satisfying blend of comfort, performance — L.A. Auto…

2013 Toyota Avalon — Satisfying blend of comfort, performance The Toyota Avalon entered the market in 1994 as a full-sized family sedan with a bench seat option and a column shifter, a strange configuration in an industry that had all but abandoned six-passenger sedans a decade earlier. Though the bench seat option was short-lived, over the years the Avalon became known less as a family sedan and more as an entry-level luxury retirement reward for life-long Camry owners. With the newest iteration, Toyota is attempting to overcome this image hoping to bring in younger buyers looking for a combination of cutting-edge style, the newest in automotive technology, and a quiet Lexus-like interior ...

Straying a Bit Beyond Its Own Comfort Zone — NYTimes.com

Straying a Bit Beyond Its Own Comfort Zone Because the Avalon has been so comfortable in its skin, I’ve always respected it. But Toyota, spurred by its racecar-driving president, Akio Toyoda, is tired of being a synonym for beige and boring. So the 2013 Avalon finds itself the unlikely avatar of a purportedly new — more adventurous and design-driven — Toyota. By auto industry standards, the resulting Avalon is hardly revolutionary. But by Toyota standards, the latest Avalon does represent an advance on modern territory, a dowager edging onto the electronica dance floor. This more Americanized Avalon was conceived in Toyota’s Calty design studios in Newport Beach, Calif. and Ann Arbor, ...

Corolla is all grown up: Toyota model still solid for looks, comfort…

2011 Corolla Toyota Review I owned a Toyota Corolla back in the 1980s. The car provided reliable transportation and excellent fuel economy. Corolla continues to deliver on that formula in its 2011 format. It’s a larger car now, a compact instead of a subcompact, and with its Toyota-style bulging head and taillights, it actually has a lot more style than my econobox model of more than 20 years ago, and of some smaller cars today. There’s more power under the hood and air bags all around, including side curtains front and rear, and the seats are a bit plusher while the interior overall is much quieter. I still like the Corolla, but there are a lot of good compacts to like these days. Click ...

2014 Toyota Highlander First Drive — Autoblog

Unsung Hero Gains A Bit More Attention Comments Add Midsize crossovers like the Toyota Highlander tend to play a thankless role in the life of today’s modern family. That’s really too bad. With the ability to hold several hyperactive kids and tons of cargo while keeping everyone safe and comfortable in all kinds of climate conditions day in and day out, they’re true heroes in the lives of hundreds of thousands of families across the country. Yet their car-apathetic owners often immediately forget about them as soon as their work is done. And nearly all midsize crossovers are thoroughly ignored by enthusiasts whose eyes begin to glaze over at first mention of the phrase third ...

Analysis & Opinion | Reuters

GM can find small comfort in Toyota’s ride By Kevin Allison The author is a Reuters Breakingviews columnist. The opinions expressed are his own. General Motors can find some small comfort in Toyota’s recall ride. Before Chief Executive Mary Barra was hauled up to Capitol Hill on Tuesday, the U.S. automaker summoned more vehicles back into the shop and doubled the estimated cost of fixing safety issues in the first quarter. Toyota’s expensive accelerator fiasco suggests GM’s costs will probably rise from here, but ultimately the financial fallout should be manageable. Culture may be the harder repair. The problems that afflicted Toyota from 2009 to 2011 have cost at least $3.2 billion ...

Toyota Field — Scorpions Keeper Patrick Hannigan Finds Comfort in San…

Scorpions Keeper Patrick Hannigan Finds Comfort in San Antonio Food and Culture Scorpions goalkeeper Patrick Hannigan hasn’t had a rough time adjusting to the South Texan culture since he arrived in San Antonio. The native Philadelphian is a presence on the pitch where his physicality and strength are demonstrated each time a soccer ball enters his penalty box. However, he is also a presence off the pitch where his genuine kindness and eagerness to help out set the right impressions on people he meets. Hannigan has been able to adjust to the new team, new city and new culture rather easily because of a number of factors including the support of his girlfriend whom he spends a lot of time ...

Extra Comfortable Comparison Road Test: 2012 Toyota Camry Vs. 2012 Hyundai Sonata Having driven a number of family sedans over the years, one realizes that certain models specialize in being reliable, dependable and not too exciting. Two such models could easily be both Toyota’s Camry and Hyundai’s Sonata as they are clearly designed for comfortable cruising rather than backroad thrills. Or has something changed recently? If you are thinking about purchasing either of these models as your next family sedan it is pretty clear that you put comfort, utility and refinement above driving excitement. But there is nothing wrong with any of that because you family must come first. Also ...

Pros Cons Older models can be less fuel conscious than the newer models Negative preconceptions from Crown’s previous incarnations and popularity as a taxi Overview, Look, and Feel of the Toyota Crown The Toyota Crown has been one of the Japanese manufacturer’s flagship cars since it appeared on the market in 1955 as a mid-sized station wagon. The 14th generation, the S210 Crown, hit the showrooms in 2012 with a restyled interior and the installation of Toyota’s multi-operational touch panel that controls many of the car’s features.
